The Trans-Atlantic Science Student Exchange Program

CANADADalhousie University, Halifax and Truro

Founded in 1818, Dalhousie University exudes tradition with its ivy-covered stone buildings. Behind the walls, however, scientists conduct research in in fast-moving fields such as ocean sciences, atmospheric science and materials science. Others focus on developing new technologies: improved lithium batteries, new pharmaceutical compounds and the LIDAR system used to map surface features as far away as Mars. Dalhousie is home to over 18,000 students who come from more than 110 countries. All classes in the Faculty of Science are open to exchange students if they meet the pre-requisite requirements. While students are expected to enroll primarily in Faculty of Science classes, some classes may be taken in other faculties, including Computer Science and Engineering. Students attend classes on campuses located in the heart of Halifax, a city surrounded on three sides by the ocean. Recreational opportunities are just a short walk from campus, and range from sailing, sea kayaking or rock climbing, to socializing in a café or pub.
